Privacy and security
- Purchase records and receipt photos are stored locally in your browser’s IndexedDB—on your device, not a server.
- No account, email address, bank connection, or cloud upload is required. The app never asks who you are.
- Browser notifications are optional. Enable them for deadline reminders or skip them entirely. Notification delivery depends on your browser and device settings.
- Export a JSON backup before clearing browser data or switching devices. The export file is yours—a standard format you can restore, archive, or convert.
Common questions
- Does ReturnLane know each store’s current policy?
- It includes presets for 90+ retailers including Amazon (30 days), Target (90 days for most items), Walmart (90 days), Costco (satisfaction guarantee), and Best Buy (15 days for most electronics). Policies change, and exceptions are common for clearance items, electronics, and holiday purchases—always confirm the specific deadline on your receipt.
- Does it work for in-store purchases too?
- Yes. Enter the store name and purchase date manually, snap a photo of the paper receipt, and the countdown starts. ReturnLane doesn’t care whether you bought it online or in person—it tracks the deadline either way.
- Will it email me reminders?
- No. The current app requests local browser notifications for deadline warnings. It does not require or collect your email address, phone number, or any contact information.
- Is Pro available?
- Not yet. Pro features including unlimited returns and advanced reporting are planned. The free tier supports up to 20 active returns with unlimited history, receipt photos, store presets, notifications, and exports.
- Can I move my records between devices?
- Yes. Export JSON from the Settings menu (one-click download), transfer the file to your new device, and import it from the ReturnLane home screen. CSV export is also available for spreadsheet use. Receipt photos may not transfer perfectly between browsers due to file-size limitations in IndexedDB.
